• There are actually two galaxies in this image, and they are in the process of merging together. You will notice that the two brightest spots correspond to the cores of the original galaxies. They are called the Antenna Galaxies and they have been colliding with each other for at least 100 million years, triggering the formation of millions of stars in the process.
